Well, we have made it through the harsh temperatures of winter and the rainy storms of spring. Now, it is officially summertime and the weather is just begging for some fun in the sun activities.
This is the best time of the year – when families enjoy spending time together taking vacations, road trips, and camping out under the stars.
With the kids out of school for the summer break, there is also a lot more activity around the house during the day. Playing out in the backyard in the sprinkler or other water activity is a favorite thing for kids to do during the summer months. And, they will be generating a lot more laundry as well.
Here are just a few things that you can do to make sure your plumbing system doesn’t break down and cause an interruption of your fun:
- Don’t misuse your garbage disposal. While it might be tempting to just scrape it all down the sink so that you can get outside and finish that last chapter of your book in the hammock – it’s not worth it. Putting any kind of food like watermelon rinds or corn on the cob into the garbage disposal will cause serious trouble for your plumbing system.
- Make sure to install drain covers in your showers and bathtubs. These are very simple little plumbing accessories but, they make such a huge difference. This is especially true during the summer months when things like sand and wood chips can easily find their way out of pockets and down the drains.
- Take a look at your washing machine hoses and make sure they are in good shape. These hoses are often neglected and, with time, they can become dried out and cracked. This leads to a leak, which drips down onto the floor behind your washing machine and, honestly, how often do you look back there!?
While the summertime is perfect for awesome family activities – it is also a time to be very thoughtful about your plumbing system. The best way to make sure that your plumbing system is working properly all through the summer – and, keeping up with the activities of you and your family – it is important to keep it well-maintained.
