Plumbing issues around the home can come up at any time. They range from the relatively simple clog to the complicated and sometimes devastating pipe leak. If the issue is not too complex, you might choose to try and fix it on your own. However, for this to be effective you have to have the right tools for the job.
Here are some of the most often used plumbing tools and ones that you should have in your home:
Sink Auger. The sink auger is probably the most valuable of all of the plumbing tools you could have in your home. It is very easy to use and is extremely effective in breaking up clogs in sinks and tubs. However, don’t get this tool confused with a toilet auger. The sink auger should not be used to try and clear a clogged toilet.
Toilet Auger. A toilet auger is specially designed to clear clogged toilets. This tool is used when a plunger will not clear the clog. A toilet auger should never be used to clear a clogged sink. Each of these augers is designed differently and specifically for their respective purpose.
Cup Plunger. Most everyone recognizes a cup plunger. They can be purchased at just about any big box store and are used to clear clogs in tubs and sinks. They are equipped with a cup shaped rubber head on wooden stick and they create suction when placed over a clogged drain and pushed down.
Flange Plunger. The flange plunger is similar to a cup plunger except it is designed to fit over the drain of a toilet and create a complete seal. When you push down on the stick handle you send a burst of air and water into the toilet drain and the clog is dislodged.
Teflon Tape. Also known as plumber’s tape this is an essential tool for sealing plumbing joints and preventing leaks. Sometimes you will find remnants of Teflon tape around a sink faucet placed in an effort to seal off a leak. If you notice Teflon tape coming loose or hanging down, replace it to ensure the leak doesn’t reoccur.
Fixing plumbing issues around the house is a relatively common occurrence. However, trying to make a fix without the proper tool can be frustrating and ineffective. Make sure you have these essential plumbing tools around your home.
